The annual Hatch Detroit competition rounds up community votes to narrow down 10 small businesses to a final four, and then to last night’s final winner.

Detroit based Sister Pie was announced last night as the official winner of the $50K prize that goes towards opening a store in the city of Detroit. The contest is presented by Hatch Detroit, Comerica, and the Detroit Lions.

“Congratulations to Sister Pie, who throughout the competition has demonstrated they deserve to be crowned the 2014 winner,” said Vittoria Katanski, executive director of Hatch Detroit.

Sister Pie looks like a very tasty choice (check out some of their pies). The company aims to celebrate the seasons through pie using seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients to create sweet and savory pies, cookies, breads and breakfast pastries.Sister Pie Detroit

In addition to the $50,000 grand prize courtesy, Sister Pie will also receive legal, accounting and IT services from Hatch Detroit sponsors.

“This contest is a prime example of the tremendous drive and determination of entrepreneurs in Detroit,” said Michael T. Ritchie, president, Comerica Bank-Michigan.

Since its inception in 2011, Hatch Detroit has helped support and spotlight lots of great local businesses and entrepreneurs. Past winners include Hugh, a home furnishing shop for men that opened their doors in 2012, 2012 winner La Feria, and  2013 winner Batch Brewing Company, among others.

Great to see another local business receive support at a critical time when they need. Sister Pie aims to expand with a retail store coming soon, so keep your eyes on the pie and follow them for updates at
