On the Verge/BBI: Creatives – Are You a Worker or a Boss?

“Are You a Worker or a Boss?” showcases women entrepreneurs that are on the verge and have made an impact in the Detroit ecosystem. From fashion, to high end jewelry, to technology, and to real-estate development, these ladies are victorious.

Karissma Yve, a modern day renaissance woman and self taught designer. She is the owner, founder and designer of XENOPHORA, a multi-disciplinary object based atelier (studio) and lifestyle brand, creating objects both wearable and functional to embrace the aesthetics in the spirit of our times.

Roslyn Karmoko, aka “Motor City’s Hottest Designer”, background is in corporate retail buying, bringing her work from NewYork and abroad, to Detroit to give a more cosmopolitan sense of style to the city. Her brand, “Detroit is the New Black” is a life style brand and boutique, located Downtown, inspired by Detroit’s contributions to fashion history.

Katrina Turnbow, is a digital marketing veteran and co-work space owner x2. Katrina’s career matured as the use of the Internet for business-to-business purposes exploded. Over the years, she has built a solid reputation for providing innovative solutions using digital methodologies. Turnbow is one of perhaps a handful of African Americans who have opened up co-working spaces. In 2013 she was recognized as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Women in Detroit.
