Girl Develop It Ann Arbor
July 10, 2014 @ 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
If you are editing files, building a website, or creating an application, version control is like a super-charged save button. You can save different versions of your files and move backwards or forwards in time through your code base.
Version control can be a powerful tool when working on a project and is helpful when collaborating between developers.
This talk will briefly discuss the benefits of Git and version control and how to get started. We will also discuss GitHub and other alternatives, such as Bitbucket, that allow you to host your files and collaborate.
Bring your questions. Laptop not required, but might be useful for trying things out during the talk.
We’ll send out git setup instructions prior to the meetup and encourage you to attend the following Code & Coffee event to get help and experiment with the tools.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Elizabeth Mitchell is a front-end web developer working at Systems in Motion. She has built websites as a hobbyist for many years. Last May she decided to strengthen her front-end development skills, learning from great people at The Factory in Grand Rapids and at Grand Circus in Detroit. She is originally from Detroit, MI and is proud to call southeast Michigan home. She’s a fan of open-source, the arts, poetry, and youth development nonprofits.
