Friendsgiving Potluck Fundraiser to support homeless youth
November 18, 2017 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
November is National Runaway Prevention Month (NRPM). Between 1.6 and 2.8 million youth runaway in a year. A harsh reality is that many of the youth end up on the street.
It is estimated that thousands of youth are experiencing homelessness in Detroit. Many aren’t receiving the support they need due to lack of awareness and resources. A recent study noted that 1 in 5 homeless youth in Detroit are victims of human trafficking. Many youth are forced to participate in survival sex to meet basic needs. Survival sex includes the exchange of exchange of sex for shelter, food, clothes or basic needs.
The theme of National Runaway Prevention Month is “Friends Helping Friends.” A friend is there is support, listen and care. They can come in the form of teachers, mentors, peers, or even family members.
Detroit Phoenix Center exists to be a friend and support for youth in crisis. We provide young people with critical resources so they wont be forced to choose between basic needs and human dignity. Our goal is to unite our community together to help us support youth as they navigate the world.
How can you be a friend? JOIN US for a “FRIENDSGIVING POTLUCK FUNDRAISER” to benefit Detroit Phoenix Center.
We will serve a Traditional Thanksgiving Menu. It will be impactful time of fellowship, food and mission driven fun!
Ticket Donation: $20/person
All proceeds will support youth who are high risk or currently experiencing homelessness in Detroit.
