The Startup Weekend Lineup Across Michigan

Startup Weekend. It’s that one annual event a lot of entrepreneurs look forward to every year.

For three days entrepreneurs, creatives, programmers, and biz dev folks of all backgrounds will gather at a space nearby to build a product and a company. Teams are chosen randomly, and ideas are thrown out on the spot. There’s no time for waiting; it’s a weekend of doing.

A lot of people really enjoy this event. There’s often great perks and rewards for those who win first place. Last year’s Detroit winners attended a Global Startup Battle and received a trip out to California to compete. Some people make life long friends and business partners. We really encourage everyone to try out a Startup Weekend at least once.

So, where will Startup Weekend be near year? Below is a list of what organizers have told us so far.  Let us know if you’re city is participating and we’ll add it to the list. Watch out if you’re in the Detroit or Howell area, your event is coming up quickly.

  • Startup Weekend Howell – On November 7th this event will be hosted Downtown at the 1st National Bank. Register here.
  • Startup Weekend Detroit – Coming soon on November 14h at Grand Circus in Downtown Detroit. You can still register for this one.
  • Startup Weekend Kalamzoo – Near the end of November, on November 21st – 23rd  is the Kalamazoo Startup Weekend, which will also be ending Global Entrepreneurship Week. Updates are available at
  • Startup Weekend Ann Arbor – Coming in January, on Jan 9-11th. There aren’t much details other than the date available.
  • Startup Weeekend Grand Rapids –  Coming in late January, on Jan 17th – 19th. They’ve got the date picked and more details coming soon.
  • Startup Traverse City – Last year was the first year this city held the event. Traverse City is a great location to travel too, and compete in. According to last year’s organizers, the next one is tentatively set for May 15th-17th at NMC’s Parsons-Stullen building in Traverse City. Updates will be made available at

Share with us if you’re going, and if any great startups are born on this weekend.
