Startup Weekend, the popoular weekend long event for starting a company, is back to Detroit but this time for a much younger crowd.

Youth can come and join in on the fun for a very special Digital Innovation Competition for Kids.  Startup Weekend Detroit – Youth is coming to Ford Field November 6-8, 2015 for kids ages 12-18. The cost to participate is just $25.

Youth will be able to learn how to create a digital product and a business plan for it all in one weekend. Kids with ideas and experience or no experience at all are welcome to join in. There’s a prize award for the “Best Digital Business” too.

The $25 registration fee includes:

  • Admission for the entire weekend
  • Program t-shirt
  • Free giveaways from Tech companies
  • 7 amazing meals and treats from area restaurants!

“Competitions like these are so important for youth because it gives them the opportunity to both imagine and build,” said Monica Wheat Founder of Digerati Girls, a sponsor of this year’s Startup Weekend for Youth event. “At this event they can experience innovation firsthand now and earn the confidence from seeing their idea come to life digitally —and win great prizes along the way!”

Why bring the youth focused event to Detroit? Monica Wheat says it’s critically important to the tech ecosystem here to create opportunities for youth. The event will be hosted at the newly launched Techstars Mobility office at Ford Field, offering quite exposure for youth to tech community in Detroit.
