New Startup Activates Corporate Giving Through Tech

It is important to support and give back to the community. Many businesses have the desire to support organizations, but sometimes finding the right fit can be difficult. There is a new technology solution thanks to Cause Activators.

Founded by mother and daughter, Dr. Mary Welsh and Dusty Welsh, Cause Activators is a start-up technology company located in Southeast Michigan.  The startup works like a matchmaking website for businesses and non-profit organizations.

“We use the same technology and algorithms as an actual dating website instead of (couples) we have non-profits and businesses being matched up on our platform,” explains Dusty Welsh Community Engagement Manager and Co-Founder of Cause Activators.

The non-profit organizations are approved and businesses “can log on at where the non-profits list their specific needs such as corporate sponsorships and supplies. Businesses can visit the site and use the matchmaking database that the site provides while using real time and employment engagement opportunities,” she continues.

This is a unique service for both businesses and non-profit organizations. Both Dr. Welsh and Dusty had a passion for helping others for a long time. This led them to careers where they worked directly with improving the lives of others. Dr. Mary Welsh has over 20 years of experience in human resources, employee engagement, and diversity and inclusion. During her career she saw her clients struggling to engage their employees and tell their story. Dusty Welsh, has a background in corporate social responsibility and non-profit engagement. Her passion is getting businesses involved in non-profit community and getting their employees engaged as well for both the benefit of businesses and non-profit organizations. Through her work she realized there was a disconnect.

“A lot of non-profit and business engagement was happening in a very outdated and manual way. There was a lot of disconnect between private sector and non-profit organizations,” she says.

Her goal is to create a technology solution to make the matchmaking process even better to activate more engagement in the community and help both businesses and non-profits.

“What I love about both non-profits and businesses is that businesses more than ever want to give back and connect their brands with good causes,” she said. “Consumers also want to support businesses and brands that have a positive and social impact.”

Cause Activators launched in October and received a lot of support along the way. The company received support from Walsh College Blackstone LaunchPad and they were also among the winners of Michigan Woman’s Foundation Dolphin Tank Competition.  As a high growth technology company, the founders hope to expand across America to serve more communities.

With an innovative business that prides itself in helping others, Welsh shares the following advice for entrepreneurs. “Get out in the community and use the resources that we have here. Whether it is joining a co-working space or getting involved in organizations the help and resources are there. You never know who you are going to meet, what doors will be open, or questions will be answered.”
