Michigan Entrepreneurs can Win up to $30K from ComcastBy Lauren Ebelt on February 21st, 2015 /
A nation-wide competition could mean big bucks for a Michigan company. Comcast Business, a sub-section of the parent company ComcastCable, has recently announced the second annual contest for innovative startups and entrepreneurs called the Innovations 4 Entrepreneurs competition.
Startups and entrepreneurs could win up to $30,000 in cash for simply answering a question: how would you use $30,000 in technology investment to enhance their business?
Winners will receive $30,000 in cash from Comcast Business in addition to a trip to Philadelphia to meet with and receive advice from business experts. Experts include celebrity Chef Robert Irvine (known for his appearances on the Food Network), Wharton entrepreneurship lecturer and DreamIt Ventures’ Director Patrick Fitzgerald, Comcast Chief Development Officer Sam Schwartz and managing director of Comcast Ventures Louis Toth.
Comcast Believes that smart, strategic use of technology can catapult a business to an entirely new level, according to the contest’s main website.
This sentiment was echoed by Bill Stemper, president of Comcast Business. “Startups and entrepreneurs play a critical role in driving our nation’s economy and creating new jobs, and we want to recognize and assist startups and small businesses that are using technology to make a difference for their customers, employees and our economy,” he said.
One startup and one entrepreneur from each of Comcast Business’ 16 regions will be chosen to win a $10,000 prize. From these winners, six will be named grand prize winners to win an additional $20,000 and the trip to Philadelphia. The metro-Detroit area and Michigan are collectively one of the 16 regions.
Entries for the award—which include a 250-word essay explaining how they would use the money—are due by March 15, 2015. Winners of the regional awards will be announced in early April, and public voting for the grand prices will be held from April 27-May 10, 2015. Full contest rules and deadlines can be found here.
