Founder of Reddit and More at Brand Camp Detroit 2013By Noelle Sciarini on September 5th, 2013 /
Mark your calendars for October 22nd — the Brand Camp conference is coming to Detroit! Tickets are still available for what promises to be a very exciting event that founder Hajj Flemings hopes will be a “conversation starter.”
“This event’s been around since 2008, but we’re really interested in sparking some new ideas,” Flemings said. “We want to be a catalyst locally but also shine the light on Detroit nationally.”
The event originated first with a focus on personal branding and social media, but in recent years has morphed into a gathering of entrepreneurs and technology developers.
“We believe there’s a lot of talent here, and we want to bring top thinkers from around the U.S. to this area,” Flemings said. “Think of Silicon Valley where there’s a high density of people doing a lot of cool stuff; we want to create the same type of environment here.”
The day-long conference will feature a series of speakers interested in doing just that, and they come from a wide variety of backgrounds, ranging from local start-ups to Alexis Ohanian, the Founder of Reddit. The line up includes Brad Feld of the Foundry Group, Nicole Glaros of Tech Stars, Josh Miller Founder of Branch, Mike McGee Co-Founder of the Starter League, and so much more.
“We’re especially excited that Ohanian is coming to speak,” Flemings said. “He’s Mr. Internet; he’s one of the top people when it comes to leveraging capital and starting conversations.”
The first 100 attendees will also get a copy of Ohanian’s new book, “Without Their Permission.” But no matter what kind of attendee you are, Flemings promises something for everyone.
“There will be incredible opportunities to network, whether you’re an entrepreneur or a startup or a business owner or just someone with a good idea,” Flemings said.
