Detroit Entrepreneur Week: Changing The Face of Food & Beverage

May 5, 2016 @ 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Moderated by Keith Owens, Editor, Michigan Chronicle

One of the most remarkable entrepreneurial trends in recent years is the phenomenal growth among African-American women owned businesses. The number of businesses have skyrocketed. Women own 58.9% of all African American-owned companies, employ 32.5% of the workers employed in African American-owned companies, and generate 28.1% of the revenues of these companies. There’s a lot more to this story.

Despite such numbers, African American female entrepreneurs start their ventures with less funding then men. In addition to access to capital, access to influential networks and mentors are challenges facing women entrepreneurs in growing their businesses. This roundtable discussion will center on the role African-African woman entrepreneurs are playing in the food & beverage industry in Detroit. You’ll gain greater insight on how they’ve overcome some of their barriers and what steps they’re taking to advance their business to the next level – with intensity, efficiency and authenticity.
